The detail of the business case for electrifying the Great Western Main Line, as presented by Network Rail to the Network RUS Electrification Working Group, is shown in Table II. Electrification would extend from Airport Junction to Swansea via Bristol Parkway, to Bristol Temple Meads via Bath, and from Didcot to Oxford. Prepared in parallel, the business case for the Midland Main Line (not shown) covers Bedford - Sheffield via Derby and Trent Junction - Nottingham. Kettering - Corby is also included. For MML, capital expenditure is £353m for benefits of £763m, giving a benefit: cost ratio of 2.2. Table III details the sensitivity tests carried out on the GWML study. Note in particular that a change of £50 000 either way to the notional capital cost of eletrification at £450 000 per single track-km has relatively little impact on the result. Also of note is the low figure of £ 15m in compensation costs for disruption in Table II. For the shorter MML the figure is £10m.
