Network Rail announced on June 26 that it had awarded Galliford Try Rail a £3-2m contract to undertake building and refurbishment work required for re-opening Laurencekirk station to passenger traffic. Located between Montrose and Stonehaven on the Dundee - Aberdeen route, Laurencekirk closed in 1967.rnThe contract includes restoration of the surviving platform and station building, dating from 1849rnand listed at Category B, as well construction of a new platform on the Up Main and a footbridge. Galliford Try Rail will also install ticket vending machines, CCTV and customer information systems, and relocate a redundant goods shed.
