Speaking at the 'Choosing Sustainable Power' seminar on April 15, Angel Trains Managing Director Haydn Abbott contrasted the attractions of electric traction for the ROSCOs with the growing difficultly in justifying long-term investment in new diesel trains. While Abbott was speaking from the perspective of his employer, RBI can confirm that other ROSCOs share this analysis. While there will be a limited market for new diesel trains in the short term, there will be increasing pressure on DfT to provide long-term usage guarantees through Section 54 agreements. Abbott quoted funding for the proposed diesel version of 1EP (p4), due to enter service in 2018 to replace the Great Western 1C125 fleet.
