No end in sight for Pendolino saga

On December 21 DfT Rail rejected Virgin Rail's latest proposal for lengthening the Class 390 trainsets from nine to 11 cars (RB1308 p1). The revised proposal included a radical change to the timing and implementation of the lengthening programme. Previously, Virgin was seeking a franchise extension to cover the reliability and other risks associated with the lengthening programme, to be undertaken during H2 examinations scheduled for 2009-10.
