At the opening of Workington North station on November 30, RBI learned that it was Network Rail's London North Western Route Director Jo Kaye who had first proposed constructing temporary platforms on the north side of the River Derwent after all road and pedestrian links across the town had been destroyed by flooding. 'The council, despite being under considerable pressure, worked with us to quickly identify the best solution and a site was chosen', she said.
