Peel Ports is set to go ahead with plans to build a container port, distribution centre and intermodal terminal, to be known collectively as Port Salford, following approval of the £400m scheme by Salford City Council on July 21. This follows approval by Trafford Council in February of a new access road and swing bridge over the Manchester Ship Canal.rnThe new port and terminal will be constructed on the north bank of the canal near Barton locks. The site covers 137 ha bounded by the canal, Barton Aerodrome to the east, the A57 on the north side and lrlam to the west. The project was developed for Peel by Indigo Planning.
