Long Beach commissioners have awarded a $36.8M contract to Ames Construction of Corona for the Green Port Gateway (GPG) railway project to enhance on-dock rail capacity. Designed to cut truck traffic and air pollution at the US port, GPG should be under way as you read this and will serve terminals including the $1.2Bn Middle Harbor, which is currently under construction. GPG includes a major track realignment and development of a rail support yard in a project expected to continue until July 2014. It will see the demolition and removal of existing track, laying of more than 8,800m of new track and the construction of 1,800m of retaining walls.
