Fire hits Eurotunnel's first quarter

Although shuttle services returned to normal on February 9 after repairs to the damage caused by September's fire were completed, with the full Eurostar timetable restored on February 2 3, Eurotunnel's operating revenue for Quarter 1 of 2009 was 34% down year-on-year at €116m.rnEurotunnel received €29m from its insurers in compensation for Q1 revenue losses attributable to the fire, which meant that total turnover was only 18% down at €144.6m. In terms of shuttle traffic volumes, the number of lorries carried during Q1 was 55% down, suggesting that recovery from thernfire will be not be rapid. Cars were down 29% and coaches 38%.
