High-output plant to boost renewals

In its Delivery Plan for Control Period 4 (RB1340 p1), Network Rail reports that it is procuring an additional high-output track renewal system, together with a ballast cleaner and support plant of three tamping machines and two ballast regulators. NR says this equipment is 'essential' to the delivery of significant volumes of track renewals on primary routes where access needs to be minimised.rnIt will enter service from January 2011, initially on the West Coast Main Line. First to be delivered will be the ballast cleaner which is expected to be operational from April 2010.
