Eurostar announced on April 16 that it had carried 1.92 million passengers in the first three months of 2009, down 11.5% on the year before. Passenger revenue was down by 5.8% at £168.1m.rnBoth revenue and traffic were down due to the reduced timetable introduced following the fire in the Channel Tunnel last September,rnwhile the global economic downturn also had 'a particular impact on business traffic with demand reducing and customers down-trading'.rnBusiness sales were down by 20% in the first three months of 2009. In contrast, leisure sales were up by 2.2% despite only five weeks of normal operation follow-rning the restoration of full capacity through the Channel Tunnel on February 23.
