Addressing the 'Growth ft the Capacity Challenge' conference on March 10, Network Rail's Head of Operational Planning ft Performance Neil Henry pointed out that the Network Route Utilisation Strategy currently in preparation 'over-rides all of the Route RUSs. Rather than a particular route, it will look at a number of differ- ent themes such as rolling stock, stations, depots and indeed electrification. 'We have a group within the Network RUS that is looking at the prospects for electrification on Network Rail, and they will look, of course, at the capital costs, maintenance costs, and particularly at electrification infills or gaps which would free up a lot of capacity and certainly help enormously both freight and passenger operators.
