French dig in for long campaign

Despite being rebuffed by the European Commission, the French government and national rolling stock major Alstom are continuing to challenge Eurostar's decision to OTder 10 high-speed trainsets from Siemens of Germany. Alstom filed a protest with the High CouTt in London on October 19 (above).rnBefore then, a mistranslation of a television interview with French Transport Minister Dominique Bussereau gave the impression that the French government was claiming that only trains built by Alstom could run through the Channel Tunnel. In fact, Bussereau was pointing out that only the existing Alstom fleet of Eurostar trainsets was cleared for tunnel operation.
