The final version of the Great Western Route Utilisation Strategy published by Network Rail on March 1 sees the volume of longdistance passenger-journeys into London Paddington increasing by 51% oveT the period to 2019.rnWhile Crossrail will take over much of the inner-suburban business, leaving scope for expansion from towns beyond Reading benefiting from electrification such as Newbury and Oxford, NR says 'Bristol is predicted to experience the biggest growth of 41% in peak demand among key urban centres'.rnThe Great Western Main Line will benefit from four major infrastructure projects to be delivered by 2016-17: electrification to Swansea, major remodelling at Reading, the first main line application of ETCS, and finally conversion of the Relief (Slow) lines and stations for use by Crossrail to Maidenhead -or more probably Reading.
