Asked whether the joint DfT/ORR study into ways to improve value for money in the rail sector (RBI357 p5) would consider public ownership and operation of rail franchises, Transport Minister Chris Mole said in a written answer given in the House of Commons on January 6 that DfT is also carrying out a review of the current franchising model in readiness for retendering the East Coast, Greater Anglia and Essex Thameside franchises later this year.
