Northern capacity boost

Northern Rail will be providing an additional 8 550 seats every day on services into Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield from the December 11 timetable change. Including standing room this equates to capacity for an additional 11 740 passengers every weekday or over 3 million a year. To deliver the Department for Transport's HLOS programme for CP4, over 60 vehicles are joining the Northern fleet, including Class 142 and Class 150 DMUs released by FGW and London Midland, as well as five four-car Class 322 EMUs. A small number of Class 156s and Class 180s are leaving for other TOCs.
