EIB lends £500m for Metrolink

The European Investment Bank announced on October 18 that it had agreed to provide a total of £500m for Phase 3 of the Manchester Metrolink expansion programme. To be provided to the Greater Manchester Combined Authority over a term of 30 years, the funding represents more than a third of the over- all investment in new infrastructure and rolling stock. "The Metrolink expansion is the single largest investment in public transport in the UK outside of London', said Councillor Andrew Fender, Chair of the Transport for Greater Manchester Committee. 'I'm pleased that we've been able to work with the EIB to realise this ambitious vision on a sound financial footing'.
