Gmita is seeking clarification from DfT over rolling stock strategy for northwest England following the publication of a Freedom of Information response posted on March 17 to a question about the 'replacement of diesel vehicles by electric vehicles on the Northern and TransPennine Express franchises' following the completion of electrification. In the response DfT states 'the department estimates that 116 existing diesel vehicles will be replaced by electric vehicles. We estimate that approximately 40 of these vehicles will come from the TransPennine Express franchise and approximately 76 will come from the Northern franchise. However, this is based on a series of assumptions (such as current train formations and service patterns), known at the time the electrification scheme was approved. As such, these numbers may be revised in the future.'
