Budget cash allocated to Ordsal Chord

A clear indication that the government will back the £530m Northern Hub scheme came on March 23 when Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne announced in his budget speech £85m for the Ordsall Chord in Greater Manchester. This new connection is being funded together with junction improvements at Deal Street west of Manchester Victoria, and line-speed upgrades between Ashton-under-Lyne and Victoria, as the first step in the five-year Northern Hub programme.
