Industry insiders report that DfT is seeking to defer major work on the interCity West Coast rolling stock fleets until after the new full-length replacement franchise is let. The fleets affected are the Alstom Class 390s and the Bombardier Class 221s, both maintained by the manufacturer.Whilst the Class 390 Pendolino fleet is currently undergoing an H3 major overhaul combined with lengthening of 31 sets from nine to 11 cars, this should be followed by the first interior refurbishment since the fleet began to enter service in 2001.
