Worker trapped between buffers

RAIB is investigating an accident that occurred at Margam Yard near Port Talbot on June 12 which resulted in serious injury to a fitter engaged in wagon maintenance. After work had been completed, the shunter responsible for movements in that area prepared to couple the wagon receiving attention to another wagon which was also standing on the repair siding a few metres away, while the fitter stepped to the opposite side of the track to the shunter so that coupling could take place.
