Pendolino seeks East Coast Main Line clearance

Pendolino set No 390 055 became the first to operate on the East Coast Main Line when it left Edinburgh Waverley for London King's Cross at 22.24 on March 12, arriving ahead of schedule shortly after 04.00 the following day. The return run departed King's Cross shortly after 23.00 on March 13. Organised by a 'deep alliance' of Virgin, East Coast, Network Rail, Angel Trains and Alstom, the test runs were performed by a Virgin Trains driver with East Coast staff acting as route conductors.
