Northern regions welcome HS2

When Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin formally launched public consultation on the proposed route for HS2 Phase 2 from Birmingham to Manchester and Leeds on July 18, he called on city leaders from the largest economic centres outside London to ensure that the maximum economic benefits are generated by the project, including job creation and skills development. Speaking as Chair of the PTE Group, which represents the public transport bodies serving over 11 million people in the largest city regions outside London, David Brown replied that HS2 'had the ability to unlock great potential across the country by connecting the city regions with fast, direct services and allowing them to be more competitive. This is tremendous news for our cities and will change forever the way we travel and do business'.
