Renewals expenditure sustained

Network Rail's expenditure on renewals in England Et Wales will rise to just under ￡2.6bn in 2013-14, the final year of the current Control Period 4. During CP5 it will then be sustained at around this level for the next four years. With much of the under-investment inherited from Railtrack corrected in CP3 and CP4, railway infrastructure is generally in a more sustainable position - with the exception of civil engineering assets.Risk-based asset policies balance renewal, component replacement and maintenance. Achieving the right balance should deliveT the required level of infrastructure performance in a sustainable way, giving the lowest whole-life cost.
