c2c to lease 24 EMU cars from Porterbrook

On April 13 c2c announced that, subject to the final signing of contracts, it had reached agreement with DfT to lease 24 additional EMU vehicles which will begin to enter service from October. This is three years earlier than the timescale for procuring additional Tolling stock announced when the replacement franchise was awarded in 2014 (RB1465 p1). The six four-car EMUs are part of Porterbrook's speculative order for 20 Class 387 Electrostars being built by Bombardier at Derby (RB1497 p2) and will increase the c2c fleet to 320 vehicles. According to the TOC, the new EMUs will enable it to provide 13 000 extra peak seats every week, and all six EMUs will be in service by the end of 2016.
