Crossrail 2 received what TfL described as 'a huge boost' on March 16, when Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osbome announced in his Budget that the government was to provide £80m to support planning for the project. TfL has been asked to match this, with the aim of depositing a hybrid bill by the end of the current Parliament in 2020. This would enable construction to start in the early 2020s for the railway to be operational by 2033, according to TfL. 'It is now full steam ahead', said Crossrail 2 Ltd Interim Chairman Daniel Moylan. 'We now aim to push ahead at full speed and will submit a hybrid bill in this Parliament to start construction as soon as possible'.
