16-18 Railcard to offer peak discount

The Rail Delivery Group announced on December 2 that a trial is to commence next spring of a new railcard that will offer passengers aged 16 to 18 the standard 34% discount. Unlike existing railcards, this discount will also apply to peak fares, enabling young people to reduce the cost of travelling for education, training or employment, says RDG. While the trial area has yet to be confirmed, the 16-18 Railcard would be app-based and priced similarly to existing railcards, most national products currently costing £30 a year. If the trial is successful, 'there will be a nationwide roll-out by September 2018', says RDG.
