Trenitalia completes c2c deal

Trenitalia UK completed the acquisition of Essex Thameside franchisee c2c from National Express Group plc on February 10. Announced on January 11 (RB1526 p5), this had required the consent of DfT which took only a month to achieve. Trenitalia took over responsibility for operations with immediate effect. Trenitalia has paid £72.6m for c2c. In addition to bond requirements under the franchise agreement, parent company FS Italiane now provides the parent company guarantees required by DfT. NEG was paid an additional £35m to settle an inter-company loan granted to the franchisee.
