Claude Chappe and the FirstTelecommunication Network(Without Electricity)

摘要

This paper briefl y reviews the essential stages of thetelecommunication networks that have developed, mainlyat the European level, before the discovery of electricityand the invention of the electric telegraph. In particular, itfocuses on the most widespread of these, the only one thatreally deserves the name of “telecommunication network,”the one implemented by Claude Chappe in France betweenthe late 1700s and early 1800s.
