Personnel doses during haemodynamic examination

Radiation doses to staff involved in radiological cardiac examinations were measured using thermoluminescence dosementers during 87 procedures such as catheterisation, percutaneous trnasluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) mitral valvulo- plasty and pacemaker implants. Doses were measured on the necks of cardiologists, nurses and technicians. The occupational doses varied form less than 10 μGy to 1.4Gy per procedure. This maximum dose was measured at neck level of the cardiologist and occurred during pacemaker implants.
