CLOSING REMARKS

It is indeed an honour to be invited to speak to this, the Ninth International Meeting on Radiation Processing, and to have the opportunity to review the week's accomplishments from the perspective of past IMRP's. I am impressed with the remarkable turnout at this meeting. So many of the people who pioneered this industry are here, as are many of the original researchers, technicians and entrepreneurs who were so successful in building on the pioneering work. They have now been joined by new young people coming into this field, all with superb credentials and a tremendous desire to continue the learning and building process in such an exciting technology. During this past week, we have heard from users, regulators, suppliers, researchers, and trailblazers in all areas of the radiation processing industry. It is especially gratifying to someone like myself, who attended the very first IMRP, to see the wide variety of applications that are being talked about, and the high level of commitment and talent that has been demonstrated this week. The radiation processing industry has experienced remarkable growth in the 18 years since we first came together to establish an International Meeting on Radiation Processing. Interestingly, attendance has grown steadily over the years, as have the numbers of papers submitted for oral and poster presentations. Remarkable though the growth in interest and attendance has been, we should all draw special encouragement and pride in the growth of applications for radiation processing.
