A home made nanosecond pulse radiolysis apparatus was built at Laboratory of Radiation Chemistry, Academia Sinica in October 1990. The monitoring equipment is a kinetic spectrophotometer. The measurement of optical density as a function of time, absorption spectrum of transient species and kinetic parameters can be obtained simultaneously. A synchronization system used to harmonize the operation of Linac and monitoring system is the key to control the pulse radiolysis apparatus. Some important novel advances including direct confirmation and development of our previous proposal of "mechanism of charge transfer protection and sensitization" have been achieved based on a series of pulse radiolysis studies.
