An in teresting letter in the postbag this month was from Reg, G8VHI. Reg explains that he is a contest enthusiast, but describes the CQWW contests as a "farce and a total waste of space". Why? Reg goes on to explain that he feels that the point of a contest is to exchange calls and one other piece of unknown information -which is generally the exchange. Of course, in the CQWW contests, the exchange is the obligatory 59(9) and the CQ zone, which of course is predictable. As Reg says, any decent bit of software will fill in the exchange received field, with the exception of a few USA stations, where you need to be really careful whether they are zone 4 or 5.
