Finishing Off A couple of years back I did a review of the TopFlite Stinson SR9 Reliant kit.This is a big model with a wingspan of just over 100" and although most things went well with the model I did encounter a few problems. The biggest problem that I had was the design of the undercarriage.The model uses an aluminium alloy undercarriage that is made in two pieces.The legs are bolted on to plywood plates and these units are attached with epoxy to the balsa box structure of the fuselage. On an early flight at Old Warden I had a motor failure and by trying to extend the glide over some rough grass I dropped the model in from not much more than a foot above the runway. Imagine my horror and surprise when the model flopped down onto the grass with a collapsed undercarriage.
