There are seemingly numerous problems appearing on our model aircraft these days that can be related in one form or another to the fitting of long extension . leads to drive remote servos and the orientation of the receiver aerial in the aircraft. These problems are not new, they have always been there. The reason they have not manifested themselves so much previously is probably because of the size of the aircraft. Ten years ago, or a little more, a big model was .90 cu in (15 cc) glow-powered and anything over this was considered huge. Over a relatively short period of time the aircraft have got bigger and more powerful, so they need lots more wiring to couple up the more powerful servos that are needed to cope with the extra flight loads. To link up the aileron, flap, elevator and rudder servos on some of the bigger models can involve many extension leads well over a metre long. In some cases the link up to the tailplane can utilise long pull-pull wires. These can also cause a problem, as we shall see. The more complicated the aircraft the more long leads it has running all over the place. Even the glider 'guiders' are not immune due to their long aileron and flap servo leads, plus of course they sometimes have conductive carbon fibre fuselages.
