In the previous part of this story, I completed the development of the first commercial Electric Ducted Fans by fitting six to my Antonov 225 'Dream' model. This crude initial technology of the Jet-Elecs was soon surpassed by the new Midi-Fan developed by Kurt Grosse, offering nearly double the thrust from the same power input. I applied these units to several models, notably my Boeing 777. The large diameter engines on the full size meant that I could build a scale model of the aircraft without having to cheat on nacelle diameters, etc. I designed it to 150 cm (60″) span to take advantage of an amazing windfall. An acquaintance had access to a firm that manufactured highly accurate travel agents' shop window models.
