Quaternary studies in Korea Ⅱ: Contents and characteristics of paleoclimatology/paleoceanography study in and around Korea

This volume was planned by a "subcommittee on paleoclimate and paleoceanography" after the fall 2012 meeting of the Geological Society of Korea. The subcommittee is one of several belonging to the Geological Society of Korea and is composed mainly of Korean members who work on Quaternary terrestrial and ocean sciences in and around the Korean Peninsula. Similar to Quaternary Studies in Korea Ⅰ (Volume 176-177, 2008), Volume Ⅱ contains the initial findings and reviews of studies spanning the Korean Peninsula and its surrounding seas. The Korean Peninsula, located in the east Eurasian continental margin, is influenced by the East Asian monsoon system. The surrounding seas, such as the Yellow Sea, South Sea, and East Sea, were influenced by currents and gyres during the Quaternary. As a result, the paleo-records obtained from proxies from lake, wetland, and marine environments aid our understanding of the East Asian monsoon system and the variability of paleo-currents (e.g., the Tsushima Warm Current, TWC) in the East Sea. To disseminate and advance fundamental research on the Quaternary, the publication of Quaternary Studies in Korea Ⅱ is planned in a series of volumes, which will illustrate the quality and diversity of Quaternary studies in Korea. A total of 19 papers are illustrated in this volume and each data of papers is originated in and around the Korean Peninsula. The following studies appear in Volume Ⅱ.
