Creativity and innovation have become buzzwords for quality professionals, and this increased attention has organizations trying to understand how these concepts fit into quality functions. A 2013 survey on management tools and trends indicated 74% of organizations believe that for long-term success, innovation is more important than reducing costs. ASQ's 2011 Future of Quality Study stated, "Innovation is increasingly the lifeblood of an organization. Providing opportunities to be more creative should be highly valued in an organization, but you often hear comments such as, "Creativity is an unstructured and an open-ended process," "You're either creative or you're not," "Creativity happens when people are under pressure," and "We need creativity. This is not a time for design of experiments (DoE)."
