New Directions for Six Sigma in the New Millennium

Six Sigma possibly represents the first time that statistical jargon has found its way into a mainstream business slogan. The package that is 'Six Sigma' has evolved from being exclusively about the original goal of a target of a small number of failures per million opportunities, to encompass a broad range of approaches for incorporating quality into products and processes from the earliest stages of design and throughout their lifetimes. The evolution of Six Sigma has not stopped—new areas of application of this methodology have emerged, and the set of tools to accomplish Six Sigma goals has expanded.
