Schumacher Packaging raises sales in 2020

Germany's Schumacher Packaging group successfully defended its business amidst the pandemic-related economic downturn last year. The group's consolidated sales in 2020 increased by 4.1 per cent to €675m thanks to new capacities and surging online retail sales.The 15 percent loss in sales in the first half of 2020 could be recouped in the second half. The group missed the €700m target for the year that it had originally set itself. The company writes that it owes the spike in sales to its new plant in Birmingham as well as the fact that recycled containerboard production at its plant in Myszkow, Poland is now running to capacity. Without the contribution from these two sites, the group would have posted a decrease in full-year sales. All jobs were secured and the group's German plants did not need to work short hours, Schumacher Packaging adds.
