German company Papacks Sales GmbH is currently investing over €10m to build a new moulded pulp packaging plant at its site in Amstadt, Thur-ingia. The company describes the plant as the largest European production facility so far for moulded pulp products used by the food, medical and pharmaceutical industries. From 2021, the new site will have a production capacity for 180 million units annually increasing to 360 million units in 2022. Commissioning of the new site is scheduled for February or March 2021. By 2022 it is expected that 50 new employees will find jobs at the site. Papacks currently operates a plant for thermally-moulded pulp products for the food industry in Appingedam, Netherlands.The plant can currently produce 50 million units per year. A company spokesman explained to EUWID that the site has potential to increase output to as many as 300 million units. At its headquarters in Cologne, Germany, Papacks produces up to 5 million moulded pulp products for industrial applications. The company also developes machines at the site.
