Associations demand free movement of goods in food and pharma packaging value chain

Players in the European packaging sector want recognition as a "critical industry" in order to avoid government-imposed plant closures, which are currently occurring in some EU countries. Industries deemed to be "critical" are excluded from such measures. Government-ordered plant shutdowns, such as in Italy, and the still-unclear development in France underline the urgency of ensuring that the packaging supply chain is not jeopardised by plant closures, industry representatives say. Raw materials and pre-products for packaging production include, in particular, paper and board, plastic and adhesives as well as printing inks and coatings, which must be used to print on the packaging to display information about the contents and use of the product.
