Savills buyers undeterred by end of the stamp duty holiday

There is still strong demand from private investors for residential properties despite the tapering off of the stamp duty holiday, judging by the results of Savills' latest auction. The London-based auction house raised a total of £34m at its 7 July auction, selling 93 lots - or 80% - of its 119-lot catalogue. "It was a great result to sell nearly 80% of the catalogue," said Chris Coleman-Smith, Savills auctions director. "I was amazed by the results. A lot of people thought that after the announcement that the stamp duty holiday would end, demand might tail off, but perhaps it's because of our great catalogue; it was still a very active sale."
