Out-of-town bargains attract record number of bidders

Auction House London raised £18.6m at its most recent auction, selling a record number of lots as buyers sought bargains outside the capital. Eighty-five of the 97 lots offered on the day were sold, equating to an 83% success rate and beating February 2015's total of £15.4m. The event attracted around 500 bidders, the largest number recorded at an Auction House London sale. AHL auctioneer Andrew Binstock said the sale's "star lots" were a vacant two-bed flat in Romford, Essex, which sold for £167,500 from a guide of £145,000-plus, and a terraced house in Watford, Hertfordshire, which sold, after what Binstock described as a "phenomenal bidding war", for £344,000 from a guide of £230,000-plus.
