How do you solve a problem like Becket Well? For the best part of a decade the 3 acre site in Derby city centre has resisted all attempts at regeneration.Derby Cityscape describes Becket Well as its biggest challenge. The urban regeneration company is drawing up a masterplan that will help to provide a clear direction for the site when the property market recovers. Last month it put a range of proposals to the public, among them a supermarket, offices, leisure and student halls. Cityscape aims to identify two options by the end of November.Site assembly has proved one of the main barriers to development. Becket Well is divided among several owners - for example, the former Debenhams store was bought by Westfield two years ago when the chain relocated to Westfield Derby and the site of the former Duckworth Square shopping centre is owned by housing association Spirita.
