Qatari diar has officially invited the Prince of Wales's Foundation for the Built Environment to play a key role in the future of the Chelsea Barracks site and its director, Hank Dittmar, will be involved from the start. This has only increased the sniggering in the property world -and among Lord Rogers' supporters - about attempts to create 'Poundburys' on the site and thecatastrophic financial outcome of heeding the prince's wishes. This is something Dittmar is anxious to quash. He told me that, as part of a recent masterclass, the foundation's graduate fellows undertook an exercise to determine whether the same number of units in the discarded Rogers Barracks plan could be accommodated on the site in a way that reflected the pattern, height and character of the surroundings.
