Property Faces Growing Burden Of Energy Certificates

The property industry is bracing itself for yet more legislation aimed at cutting energy use in buildings. Display energy certificates will be compulsory from 1 October for public sector occupiers that have more than 1,000 sq m of floor space and provide a service to the public. And the government plans to consult on an extension of the certificates to large commercial buildings.In addition, the European Commission plans a second, tougher version of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, for which consultation responses are due by 20 June.
