It has been a little more than a year since real estate finance veteran Harin Thaker announced his departure from the world of property banking. Yet, his working day is no slower or less hectic today than it was, he says. Thaker left PBB Deutsche Pfandbriefbank at the end of January 2012, after 20 years at the bank in various guises, including a stint as the European CEO of Hypo Real Estate before it was wound down in 2011. Most recently, he was head of real estate finance international at Deutsche Pfandbriefbank. He left one of the largest property banks in Europe to join one of the largest nongovernmental organisations (NGOs) in the world, which helps to feed some of the poorest children in India. The Akshaya Patra Foundation started in Bangalore in 2001, and raises money to provide midday meals to school children across India. For many of them, it will be their only meal that day.
