Proposed rent controls could stymie London's BTR market

As he prepares to battle for re-election as mayor of London next year, Sadiq Khan has revealed that introducing rent controls in the capital will be one of his key policies. Khan does not yet have the power to do this, but he has commissioned deputy mayor for housing, James Murray, and Labour MP Karen Buck to draw up a blueprint for how rent controls could work, and will ask the government to make legislative changes to allow him to implement it.
