While a positive safety culture can be established in many ways, verbal reinforcement of positive behaviors is both cost free and effective. Employee motivation is the key. While common methods to motivate are often tied to rewards or incentives such as increased compensation or additional perks, looking at motivation from a different perspective may be needed. When employees are surrounded by encouragement and affirmation about their efforts, they are motivated to continue doing good work (Mallon, 2013).
