Covanta Pittsfield Facility Earns STAR Status

Crediting its constant improvements in safety and health programs, Covanta Energy's Pittsfield, MA, facility recently earned OSHA's VPP STAR status. One of 35 worksites in Massachusetts to have received the honor, the Pittsfield site processes 240 tons per day of solid waste generated from commercial and residential operations. Steam generated by its energy-from-waste facility is used by a local paper company, Crane & Co. Covanta representatives say that sites such as the one in Pittsfield are committed to effective employee protection beyond the requirements of federal standards.
